Despite federal shutdown the Boston Harbor Islands are open

Despite today's Federal government shut down and its negative impact on local National Park Service (NPS) sites, the Boston Harbor Islands are open to the public. Regularly scheduled ferry service provided by Boston's Best Cruises, a private organization, continues to operate from their Ferry Center at Long Wharf (North). The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) ranger staff will continue to provide visitor services onGeorges and Spectacle Islands throughout the remainder of the regular season, ending on October 14th.

The Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a federal facility, will however be closed to the public. Additionally, education programs jointly conducted by NPS and Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center will also be impacted.
